Valentine’s Day Idea #4: These are the best sugar cookies ever. I love making fun Valentine cookies with this dough. When they first come out of the oven you might think that they are not done yet but just wait a few minutes and they will be perfect. Cover with cream cheese frosting and any fun candy or sprinkles.
Ingredients:
Sugar Cookies
- 2 c. Sugar
- 1 c. Sour Cream (light and fat free work great)
- 1 c. Butter or Margarine (softened)
- 2 Eggs (mix together)
- 1/2 tsp. Salt
- 1 tsp. Baking Soda
- 1 tsp. Baking Powder
- 4 1/2 c. Flour
- 1/2 tsp. Vanilla
Directions:
Preheat oven to 400 F. Cream together the sugar, sour cream and butter. Then add eggs. Mix together the dry ingredients and then add to the egg mixture. Add vanilla and refrigerate for at least 3 hours or overnight. Flour a surface generously with flour. Roll dough out and use cookie cutters to make desired shapes. The dough will be really sticky so you will have to add more flour until the dough doesn’t stick to the surface (it might take a lot of flour so don’t worry). Lay cookies on a cookie sheet lined with parchment paper and bake for 5-12 mins. If you like softer sugar cookies bake for 5-6mins. If you are a fan of crunchy cookies then bake them longer. The cookies will be lightly brown on the edge but not that brown. Let them cool on the pan for 2 mins. and then transfer them to a cooling rack. Let them cool completely and frost with cream cheese frosting.
Cream Cheese Frosting
This is my favorite Cream Cheese frosting that I use for everything. I use it for frostings, fillings and cinnamon rolls. Depending on what you are using it for you can add a little milk to thin it out.
Ingredients:
- 1 (8oz.)pkg. Cream Cheese (Reduced fat works great but not the fat free)
- 1 cube Butter (softened)
- 5 c. Powdered Sugar
- 1 tsp. Vanilla (Clear, unless coloring it)
- 1-3 Tbsp. Milk (When making the frosting for the cookies I don’t add any milk)
Directions:
Cream the cream cheese and butter together. Add 1c. of powder sugar at a time until mixed. Then add the vanilla and milk. Add coloring at the end.
